The Greek saga of Daedalus and Icarus, like the story of Daphne, can be found in the tales of the Roman poet Ovid. Icarus and Daedalus were imprisoned by King Minos in the Minotaur labyrinth in Crete.
Since Minos controlled the seafaring and the land, Dädalus invented wings for himself and his son to escape. Before the start, he instructed Ikarus not to fly too high or too low, otherwise the heat of the sun or the humidity of the sea would lead to a crash. Everything went well at first, but then Icarus became cocky and rose so high that the sun melted the wax of his wings, whereupon the feathers loosened and he plunged into the sea.
Desperate Daedalus named the island where he had buried his son in memory of his child Ikaria. Today, Daedalus is considered the forefather of all technicians and sculptors (he is also said to have created the first large statues).
While Ikarus is often used as a bad example of what youthful recklessness can lead to.
